Montserrat
Tours and Excursions in Catalonia
There are several reasons that push people to visit our sacred mountain: the contact with nature, the spectacle of its singular monoliths, the devotion to the Moreneta, Virgin of Montserrat, the exaltation of the Catalan traditions, the centennial pilgrimage tradition...
In Montserrat we can visit the Benedictine monastery and the Basilica that have their origin in the 11th century, where every day (except Saturdays) the children of the “Escolanía”, one of the oldest choirs of Europe, sing the “Salve” to the Black Madonna.
The access to the mountain can be made by bus or bus combined with funicular or the cable car.
Ideas for your visit:
The chapel of the “Moreneta” (Blak Madonna) in the Basilica, and the small market where the farmers sell the typical Catalan sweet dessert: “mel i mató” (honey and fresh cheese).
The museum, that contains six different collections. The oldest exhibit dates back to the 13th century BC.
For this excursión we recomended to go early in the morning 8,30 am or in the afternoon.
